PULE: THE SACRED ART OF PRAYER
The Second Pillar of Hawaiian Spiritual Practice
Discover the sacred practice of pule — the Hawaiian art of prayer used to seek guidance, open healing work, and give thanks to Na Akua and the ancestors.
Before healing work begins, there is prayer.
Before knowledge is received, there is prayer.
Before sacred work is opened, there is prayer.
In Hawaiian tradition this practice is known as pule.
Pule is not simply asking for something.
It is communication with Nā Akua and Nā Kūpuna — the higher beings and the ancestors who guide the living.
In this workshop you will learn the foundations of pule and how prayer supports healing work, learning, and daily life.
THE ANATOMY OF HAWAIIAN PRAYER
Prayer is not simply random words spoken into the air.
Pule has structure and intention.
During this masterclass you will learn the traditional components of a prayer:
-
Recipient
-
Greeting
-
Message
-
Intention
-
Gratitude
- Sending
-
Closing
Understanding this structure gives clarity and confidence when offering prayer.
CORE PRAYERS YOU WILL LEARN
Participants will receive and practice several foundational prayers including:
Prayer for Knowledge
- Used before study and learning.
Opening Prayer for Healing Work
- Used to begin and protect healing work.
Closing Prayer for Healing Work
- Used to release and complete the healing work.
SACRED CHANTS
Short chants used in healing and spiritual work will also be shared.
Including chants for:
• healing
• protection
• gratitude
• closing sacred work
These chants help maintain alignment and intention during spiritual practice.
THE INNER STATE OF PRAYER
In Hawaiian understanding, prayer is not only about the words spoken.
The state of the person offering the prayer matters.
Participants will learn the four qualities that prepare a person for prayer:
• Haʻahaʻa — humility
• Malie — calmness
• Pono — correct intention
• Aloha — respectful regard
These qualities establish the proper relationship when communicating with Na Akua and Na Kupuna.
