Pō hānau i ke ao

THE ORIGINS
Everything begins in Pō

Everything begins in Pō.

In the ancestral understanding carried by our kūpuna, life is not created — it is born.

Pō is the deep realm of origin, where life gathers and prepares to emerge. From Pō comes Ao, the realm of light and visible life.

Because Ao is born from Pō, they are never separate.

Origin and emergence remain connected.

Life is born, not created.

Born from Pō

Life does not begin in the light.

It begins in Pō — in darkness, where all things gather and take form.

As a child is carried in the womb, life is nurtured in what cannot yet be seen.

When it emerges into the light, it is not separate from where it began.

It remains connected.

The connection is never broken.

Pō and Ao Are One

Pō is not separate from Ao.

What comes into the light remains connected to where it began.

There is no division between darkness and light — only a continuous unfolding.

One gives rise to the other, and both exist together.

They are not separate.

AO

The Light Emerges

From Pō come the teachings

that guide how we live, how we move, and how we return to what is right.

These teachings are not created. They are carried, remembered, and practiced.

Within Mana O Kahiko, this path is held through the Foundations — a return to alignment in thought, word, and action.

This is where the path begins.

What is carried now becomes practiced.

From Pō, we move into Aʻo

The teachings that bring light into practice.
